Description
D Shackle with Safety Bolt
The KKV D Shackle with Safety Bolt, also called a Dee Shackle, is a detachable connector for compatible in-line lifting and rigging assemblies.
Its straight-sided D profile provides a compact connection, while the removable bolt is retained by a nut and cotter pin. Final selection must be based on the verified Working Load Limit (WLL), pin and body dimensions, connected-component fit, load direction, environment and documentation for the exact supplied model.
Designed for Secure, Verifiable Rigging Connections
Compact Dee Profile
The narrow, straight-sided body is intended for compatible single-leg connections with the load kept in the approved in-line direction.
Safety-Bolt Assembly
A bolt, nut and cotter pin form a secondary retention arrangement when the complete matched assembly is installed correctly.
Detachable Connection
The removable pin supports assembly and disassembly where the selected shackle and connected parts have adequate clearance.
Dimension-Based Selection
Pin diameter, body diameter, inside width and inside length can be matched to the actual chain link, thimble or lifting lug.
Matched Components
The body, bolt, nut and cotter pin must remain the correct matched parts for the selected shackle size and product family.
Order-Specific Documentation
Required marking, technical data, inspection documents and destination-market requirements should be confirmed before production.
Body, Pin and Retention Parts Work as One Assembly
A D shackle is not selected by nominal size alone. The rounded crown, straight sides, eyes, safety bolt, nut and cotter pin all form part of the load-bearing or retaining assembly. The connected components must sit without forcing the shackle body apart, bearing on the threads or creating an unintended eccentric load.
The cotter pin is a retention component, not a substitute for correct bolt and nut installation. Never replace the pin, bolt, nut or cotter with an unidentified part. If any component is missing, damaged, mismatched or cannot be assembled as instructed, remove the shackle from service and refer it to a qualified person.
For Compatible Single-Leg, In-Line Assemblies
The selected D shackle may be used to connect compatible lifting or rigging components when the exact model, dimensions and load path are approved for the application.
Connecting a correctly sized chain end component or master link in an approved single-leg arrangement.
Connecting a compatible thimble eye without bearing on the bolt threads or overcrowding the shackle.
Passing the shackle pin through a dimensionally compatible pad eye or lifting lug with suitable clearance.
Detachable connections for maintenance, installation and material-handling work within the approved load direction.
Review KKV Grade 80 lifting chain, chain-rigging assemblies and eye sling hooks when specifying the complete connection. Every component must be individually selected and mutually compatible.
Choose the Body Shape from the Connection Geometry
A D shackle has a narrower, straighter body and is normally shortlisted for a single, aligned load path. A bow or anchor shackle has a wider crown that may provide more room for certain multi-component arrangements. That difference does not by itself approve side loading, multiple sling legs or a particular included angle.
Use the exact manufacturer’s instructions and capacity data for the selected shackle. Do not transfer a side-load reduction table, multi-leg permission or WLL from another shackle design, size or brand. If the connection cannot remain centered and in line, provide a drawing and all load directions for engineering review before ordering.
How to Select the Correct D Shackle
Confirm the Maximum Applied Load
Select from the verified WLL of the exact shackle model. Include the actual rigging arrangement and applicable force effects; do not use breaking load as working capacity.
Define the Load Direction
State whether the connection is strictly in line. Side load, eccentric load, multiple legs, movement over the pin and shock loading require model-specific review.
Measure Every Connection
Provide the required pin diameter, body diameter, inside width and inside length, plus the dimensions of the chain link, thimble, lug or mating hardware.
Check Seating and Clearance
Confirm that the connected part can remain centered, articulate as intended and avoid loading the threads, nut, cotter pin or edge of the shackle eye.
Specify the Working Environment
Disclose temperature, water, salt, chemicals, corrosion, vibration, cyclic duty and any hazardous or offshore conditions before selecting material and finish.
Confirm Documents and Traceability
State the destination, applicable project specification, marking, certificate, inspection record and packaging requirements in the RFQ.
Verify the Supplied Configuration Before Use
The delivered shackle should be checked against the approved order, current technical data and supplied documentation.
Select by Verified WLL and Connection Dimensions
D shackles can be supplied in multiple sizes, but the current KKV page does not yet publish a verified model-by-model WLL and dimension table. Send the required load, mating-component dimensions and documentation needs so KKV can confirm the correct available configuration before quotation.
Confirm Project Requirements Before Production
Availability depends on the selected model and order. Discuss every required option in the enquiry rather than assuming that it is standard.
Check the Complete Shackle Before Use
Inspection frequency and removal criteria must follow the supplied manual, applicable regulations, service severity and site procedures.
Confirm that the WLL, size and manufacturer identification required for the product remain legible.
Inspect for distortion, wear, damaged threads, nicks, gouges, cracks, corrosion and evidence of overheating.
Verify that the correct retention parts are present, fully installed and not damaged or able to work loose.
Check that parts remain correctly seated and centered without thread loading, binding or unintended side load.
Remove the shackle from service when identification, condition, fit or assembly is uncertain. Do not straighten, weld, heat, machine or bend a shackle, and do not mix a body with an unidentified replacement pin. Repair and return-to-service decisions must be made under the manufacturer’s instructions by an authorized or qualified party.
